It took me 3 years to read this book. But let me explain why. I thought this series was a duology for some reason and when I learned that it wasn’t even going to be a trilogy but 4 books…I kept..putting..it off.

I have an issue since Sarah J Maas left us hanging in the ACOTAR series 4 years ago and I have had a rule about not starting unfinished series since then.

But the hype got me and I really wanted to know what happened in this chapter of Bree’s story..before the internet spoiled it all for me.

So when book three came out, I decided to dive back in. It took me a month of starts and finishes but then one Sunday it grabbed a hold of me and didn’t let go and now..I’m back to being obsessed.

Synopsis of Bloodmarked By Tracy Deonn

All Bree wanted was to uncover the truth behind her mother’s death. So she infiltrated the Legendborn Order, a secret society descended from King Arthur’s knights—only to discover her own ancestral power. Now, Bree has become someone new:

A Medium. A Bloodcrafter. A Scion.

But the ancient war between demons and the Order is rising to a deadly peak. And Nick, the Legendborn boy Bree fell in love with, has been kidnapped.

Bree wants to fight, but the Regents who rule the Order won’t let her. To them, she is an unknown girl with unheard-of power, and as the living anchor for the spell that preserves the Legendborn cycle, she must be protected.

When the Regents reveal they will do whatever it takes to hide the war, Bree and her friends must go on the run to rescue Nick themselves. But enemies are everywhere, Bree’s powers are unpredictable and dangerous, and she can’t escape her growing attraction to Selwyn, the mage sworn to protect Nick until death.

If Bree has any hope of saving herself and the people she loves, she must learn to control her powers from the ancestors who wielded them first—without losing herself in the process.

What I Thought:

This was so good. So worth the wait and has me smacking own self up against the head for not reading it sooner.

I vacillated between rolling my eyes at Bree, and Sel and Nick and everyone around her and screaming and wishing and hoping for things to turn out right.

This was simply put: excellent. It’s everything you want in a fantasy book: a plot, a magical system, and a little romance ( this is the first time I’ve seen a TRUE love triangle and I’m here for it) .

And the way that the author weaved in slavery and racism and micro-aggressions with traditional root magic along with the Arthurian legend was in a word, brilliant.

(There was a line when Bree told a white man not to touch her hair that made me say YAS GIRL TELL HIM.)

Even with the introduction of new characters and making is fall for the old ones all over again, but 50 % in, I could not put this book down until the very end.

So just in case you didn’t get it, I highly recommend Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn. HIGHLY recommend.
